Acts 5:38-39 …how do you test the authenticity of faith?

Acts 5:38-39 NKJV

“And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it—lest you even be found to fight against God.””

The words in v38-39 were the supposedly wise counsel of Gamelial – the teacher of the Apostle Paul. The Gospel preached by the Apostles was experiencing great reception by the people.

Gamelial’s reasoning is that if some teaching withstood the test of time, it was authentic and definitely the work of God. He based this reasoning on the previous movements that stopped over time. Based on that reasoning, Christianity would be considered real since it withstood the test of time. However, on the same basis, other religions would also be considered real since they too withstood the test of time. Therefore, we cannot consider Gamelial’s reasoning to be sound. Instead, every thing should be tested against God’s word. That alone is the standard of truth. Nothing else is a reliable measure.

Acts 7:10 – what happens when God is with us?

Acts 7:9-10 NKJV““And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.”

When God is with us, He delivers us out of all our troubles and give us favour. This is exactly what happened to Joseph when God was with him. May we have the same experience. May God be with us.

Acts 7:9 – But God was with him….

Acts‬ ‭7:9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him..”

It does not matter whether good or bad comes in our path. The important thing is whether God is with us. God is with us when we walk in His ways. His way for us to approach Him is through His Son Jesus Christ. The implication is that we should repent, acknowledge our worthlessness before a holy God and are totally dependent upon Him as our source of help and hope. May God be with us.

Acts 7:55 – What do you see when you are undergoing trial?

Acts 7:55 NKJV

“But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,”

‭‭Stephen was about to be stoned. His life was threatened. What a great trial he was undergoing! What did he see when he was undergoing this trial? Stephen saw The glory of God and Jesus at His right hand. He was filled with the Holy Spirit. How blessed it is when we are able to see the presence of God with us in the midst of our trial, toil and pain. How wonderful it must be when we are able to see beyond our trial and sense the very hand of God working things out for our good. How blessed it was for Stephen. May God bless us similarly.
